Having dedicated more than 50 years of his life to the Himal Steel factory in Parwanipur, he believes the manufacturing vertical of his business during it’s time contributed towards building a self-sufficient Nepal, an ideology embedded in the multiple industries established by the Group in the 1960s and 1970s. Fast forward 50 years, he believes trading is a good way to serve the society with goods and services that people need, ensuring affordable price and quality. Along with trading he sees potential in the services industry, leveraging new technologies to leapfrog into the future, along with investing in small and micro manufacturing industries such as the renewable energy sector for sustainable growth.
Mr. Padma Jyoti spent his childhood in Kalimpong where he completed his schooling after which he went to IIT Kanpur to study engineering. He attended an MBA Accelerator program at MIT from 1971-1972, a program known for its rigour. He is the embodiment of his personal values: “Simple living, high thinking” and is looking forward to his younger generations blending new age thinking with the past legacy and taking Jyoti Group forward with the times.

As a renowned business leader, Mr. Padma Jyoti has served leadership roles in several industry organizations including Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the National Business Initiative and the Nepal Automotive Dealers Association (NADA), and many more. He served in roles in the district, community and national level for the FNCCI as well as serving as its President. During his tenure he facilitated important discussions related to the Labour Act, and the Trade Union Act.
As a founding member of the National Business Initiative, he brought together 1,000 business leaders during the peak of the conflict to ensure that businesses were protected from political instability. Under his leadership , the NBI facilitated international level discussions for peace negotiations. Post the peace agreement, the NBI has focused on improving the Codes of Conduct and ethical practices of businesses in Nepal.
Alongside its efforts to minimize corruption through creating a pooled basket fund for all businesses to contribute towards elections, the NBI also encourages ways to improve ethical business practices in Nepal through holding the Responsible Business Summit.
Besides contributing to the industry associations in Nepal, Mr. Padma Jyoti represented Nepal in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce and had a prestigious mandate as a part of the Nepal India Trade Treaty negotiation. He was a part of discussions for SAPTA and SAFTA and focused on how Nepal could sell more products to India through a joint task force mandated to assess how Nepal’s export to India could increase to improve Nepal’s Balance of Payments. Under the leadership of Prabhakar Shamsher who led the task force formed by CII & FNCCI- both sides provided recommendations to then PM Sher Bahadur Deuba & PM Narsimha Rao at the Hyderabad House.
He also played a role in bringing in experts from IRS & Harvard University to provide suggestions to improve the tax regime in Nepal. In addition, during the first constitution building process, he was nominated to represent the business community and provided his feedback from an industry perspective. In addition, he has served as the Consul General for Denmark & Cyprus to help improve business relations between Nepal and these nations.
